4th Grade Math
Today, students will take an Addition and Subtraction Pre-Assessment identifying what they know before instruction begins on this unit. Students will need to know the value of and be able to manipulate up to 7 digit numbers using both addition and subtraction. By the end of this unit, students will be able to use the traditional algorithm to solve multi-step problems (using numerals and in word form).

Scientific Method
Juice Rocket! Our class used the Scientific Method to construct and conduct a Juice Rocket. What made it go? A simple mixture of lemon juice and baking soda...Unfortunately, our bubbles (carbon dioxide) bubbled over before the gas was captured and our rocket was unable to blow its cork! What a disappointment! We will be giving this a second try on Monday. Students loved observing in this visually stimulating experiment. Don't worry, there will be more to come!

Expectations
The purpose of homework is to provide practice and review of already taught concepts. Students should not struggle miserably to complete assigned work. Please offer support as needed; but if work is too difficult for your student, be sure to write a note and send it back to school the following day. I will offer instruction and encouragement. Homework is graded for completion. Thank you for helping your student be successful in accomplishing his or her homework nightly.
*Math (usually)
*Home Reading (20 minutes daily--100 minutes a week--at your child's reading level)
*Spelling (tests are usually administered on Friday!)
*Multiplication Facts 1-10 (regularly, please!)
Welcome Back!
Welcome students and families! I'm so glad to be back to work and to see familiar (and new) faces. So far, our days have gone great. We've gotten to know one another, found similar interests and interesting ones, too. We've made commitments to be honest and fair, to treat each other kindly, and to help each other to be successful. Really, these kids are awesome! Thank you for sharing them with me for the year. I know it will be a great one!
